Costume Requirements
A definitive guide for crafting screen-accurate and in-universe Sith apparel.
General Information & Quality
- Color Palette: Costumes must primarily utilize a dark color palette. Acceptable colors include black, dark grey, charcoal, deep crimson, maroon, or dark purple. White or silver may be used sparingly as an accent (e.g., armor trims, belt buckles). Earth tones (browns, tans) are generally prohibited unless heavily weathered to appear burnt or corrupted, as they read too closely to Jedi aesthetics.
- Quality of Materials: All soft and hard parts should have no visible modern construction methods (e.g., exposed zippers, modern shoelaces, visible serged edges on outer garments, 3D print lines, or un-sanded Bondo).
- Weathering & Battle Damage: If applicants include damage and weathering on their costume, a clear effort to make the level of damage and weathering consistent across all parts of the costume must be apparent. Pristine ("clean") Sith are allowed, but if weathering is applied, it must look like in-universe ash, dirt, plasma scoring, or blood-stripe fraying.
Head & Face Coverings (Optional)
Sith characters may choose to show their face or wear masks, helmets, or respirators. If a head covering is worn, it must adhere to the following:
- Sith Acolyte/Warrior Masks: Must be made of a rigid material (Resin, Fiberglass, ABS, or thoroughly smoothed/finished 3D prints). Masks must securely fit the wearer’s face. Eyes must be obscured using a dark visor, mesh, or dark makeup around the eyes.
- Respirators/Rebreathers: Lower-half face respirators (similar to Darth Malgus or Darth Vader) are permitted. They must appear functional within the Star Wars universe. Exposed real-world medical tubing, CPAP hoses, or zip-ties are strictly prohibited unless modified beyond recognition.
- Makeup/Prosthetics: If no mask is worn, Sith corruption makeup (pale skin, darkened eyes, veining) is highly encouraged but not required. Yellow/red Sith contact lenses are permitted and encouraged.
Soft Parts
- Inner Tunic / Undershirt: Must have long sleeves and a mock-turtle or high collar. Sleeves should be fitted and not bunch up excessively. T-shirts and visible thermal knits are prohibited.
- Outer Tunic: Must be made of a textured, high-quality fabric (wool, linen, raw silk, gabardine, or heavy cotton weaves). Shiny synthetic fabrics (like cheap satin or crushed velvet) are not accepted. The tunic must securely wrap and overlap in the front.
- Tabards: If worn, tabards must extend from the shoulder down past the belt, ending around the knee. They must be made of sturdy fabric, leather, or synthetic leather, and must not easily blow out of place.
- Obi / Sash: Must wrap around the waist underneath the leather belt. Must match the fabric and quality of the tunic or tabards.
- Cloak / Robe (Optional): Must feature an oversized, draped hood that falls naturally over the shoulders. Must have a wide, sweeping hem that clears the ground by no more than 1 to 2 inches to prevent dragging and fraying (unless heavy weathering is applied).
- Trousers / Lower Body: Pants must be fitted or securely bloused into the boots. Modern slacks, denim jeans, and track pants are strictly prohibited. Pleated Hakama-style pants or long skirts are allowed if they are made of heavy, flowing fabric.
- Gloves: Must be made of leather or high-quality faux leather. Gloves should extend at least halfway up the forearm (gauntlet style) or be securely tucked under armored bracers. Moto-cross gloves or gardening gloves with visible modern branding/padding are not allowed.
- Boots: Must be leather or leather-like. Boots must rise to at least the mid-calf. Uggs, visible sneakers, combat boots with modern tactical laces, or shoes with visible modern branding (e.g., Nike swooshes, Vibram yellow logos) will not be accepted. Zippers are permitted only if they are on the inside of the calf and hidden.
Hard Parts / Armor (Optional)
Armor is not universally required for Sith, but if worn (in the style of The Old Republic or Inquisitors), it must adhere to strict guidelines.
- Acceptable Materials: Sintra, Kydex, Fiberglass, Resin, Metal, or heavily processed 3D prints (PETG, PLA, ABS). EVA foam is only permitted if it is sealed, coated, and finished to a standard where it is entirely indistinguishable from rigid materials like metal or plastoid.
- Chest / Shoulder Armor: Must be proportionally sized to the wearer. Must attach securely without visible straps, tape, or glue. If straps are necessary, they must be leather or concealed elastic.
- Bracers / Gauntlets: Must be rigid and fully enclose the forearm. Clam-shell designs or seamless slip-on designs are approved. They must close together securely to ensure no gap is visible between halves.
- Attachment Methods: Screws and rivets are permitted to be visible only if they are filled, sanded smooth, and painted to match the surrounding armor, or designed to look like in-universe hardware.
Weapons
- Lightsaber (Required): Must be a customized, in-universe style hilt. "Ultrasabers", "Saberforge", or custom machined hilts are acceptable.
- Blade Color: If a blade is installed, it must be Red. Deep crimson or unstable/cracked red variants are acceptable. Blue, green, yellow, cyan, and white are strictly prohibited for Sith characters. (Purple may be approved on a case-by-case basis for specific Legends character recreations).
- Construction: Toy plastic hilts (e.g., retractable Hasbro toys) are strictly prohibited. Hilts must be metal or high-quality painted resin/3D prints that simulate metal.
- Mounting: The lightsaber must be mounted to the belt via a Covertec wheel/clip system or a sturdy D-ring. It cannot simply be tucked into the obi or sash.
Accessories
- Belt: A sturdy leather or leather-like belt at least 2 inches wide is required. The belt must feature an in-universe style buckle (no visible modern belt buckles, standard prong buckles, or snap-buckles).
- Pouches: Leather or rigid pouches are allowed. They must securely attach to the belt. Modern tactical nylon pouches or cell-phone holsters are prohibited.
- Sith Artifacts: Holocrons, dark side amulets, or ancient tomes may be hung from the belt, provided they look like authentic Star Wars props and do not interfere with the wearer's mobility.
